Drug Alcohol Intervention Campaign – Dr Mohammad

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Dr. Akikur Mohammad, Founder of Malibu Horizon, the leading non 12-step treatment center in Malibu, California and Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC.edu), announced today that he and his team at Malibu Horizon, along with several addiction professionals in the region are launching an intervention awareness campaign designed to educate the public about the marvels and pitfalls of the intervention process.

Dr. Mohammad said, “While there is absolutely no doubt that when dealing with a medical disease, proper and careful intervention by a qualified individual is the key to healing; well, that sentiment holds particularly true for the disease of addiction.” Mohammad added, “Sadly, a shocking number of interventionists working today are not just unqualified to perform quality interventions, but they are also drastically overcharging people in need for their questionable services. In my opinion, this behavior is borderline criminal and must be stopped”

Dr. Mohammad and his peers have decided that until there is a consistent and respected regulatory system in place to monitor the actions of qualified interventionists, they are forming an alliance of addiction experts throughout the recovery industry that will be keeping a registry of qualified and reputable interventionists, and making their list available to the public upon request. Mohammad added, “Our team is launching this campaign to not only educate the public about the intervention process and how to find the best qualified interventionist for your situation, but also to provide some system of checks and balances to an intervention industry that until now has operated below the radar. There is no room for error when treating this disease and the professionals responsible for critical interventions need to be qualified or out of business; it is that simple and an awareness campaign is a much needed first step.”

Non 12 Step Rehab

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Non 12 step rehab programs are becoming more and more available. Twenty years ago, there were none. Fortunately, today there are more non 12 step based drug alcohol treatment centers than ever before, and more every day. The drug alcohol rehab industry has come to realize that they were being very short sighted to not have rehab facilities for people who either had tried the 12 step approach, or felt strongly about having God be the major focus of their recovery. Today, is a least one good non 12 step rehab program in every region of the country. Non 12 step rehab use a more therapy based, self-empowering approach. There are several good non 12 step aftercare programs to support people who are not in rehab as well.

Non 12 Step Rehab Program

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Non 12 step rehab programs  seems like a no-brainer. A federal judge recently ruled that the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous  and Narcotics Anonymous are a form of religion. Non 12 step rehab programs understand that although the 12 steps do work very well for some, they do not successful for everybody. Not by a long shot. To ask an alcoholic an or a drug addict to accept religion as the the only possible solution to their problem is not only ridiculous, it is against just plain common sense.

Dual Diagnosis Rehab – Treating the Underlying Cause of Addiction

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Dual diagnosis rehab is the term applied when a person suffers from both an alcohol and or  substance abuse as well as some psychiatric disorder. The psychiatric condition can be any number of problems, including depression, bi-polar, anxiety, panic, ADD/ADHD, borderline personality, schizophrenia and any number of other problems. If lasting recovery and abstinence is to be achieved, both the substance abuse and the mental condition must be properly treated simultaneously. If someone has an allergic reaction, the cause of the reaction must be determined and treated, not just the body’s surface reaction. When a drug alcohol rehab begins the process of treatment, the first thing to determined would be to see if any co-occurring mood disorders existed, nor not. Once that information is established, a comprehensive treatment plan can be assembled and real treatment, begin.

Non 12 Step Rehab

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Non 12 step rehabs are the latest advancement in the treatment of alcohol and substance abuse. Most offer various alternatives to the old Alcoholics Anonymous 12 step model which offers people choices.  Since the success rate for people who attend a drug rehab program today is low. Part of the reason the success rate is so low is most rehabs put all their emphasis and the 12 step program of AA and or Narcotics Anonymous. The problem with that is the 12 steps were recently ruled to be religion. The other problem is that it make the person think that is the only support group out there. And the truth is it does not work for everyone. Find the right program

Malibu Drug Rehab Offers Modern Treatment

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Why are the rehabs in Malibu California more successful? It is mainly because they take a much more holistic, modern approach. Addiction and alcoholism have been around for centuries. What has changes is new discoveries in how to treat it successfully. The research now indicates people need to be treated for all psychiatric problems as well as their compulsive drug seeking if they are going to have their best chance at recovery. Malibu drug rehabs understand not only this holistic approach, they also understand that addicts and alcoholics are sick, not bad, and deserve to be treated with the same dignity and respect as anyone with a fatal disease.

Malibu Rehab Treat Co-Occurring Depression

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

Why is treating a co-occurring mood disorder, like depression, so important to the drug alcohol rehab process. It might very well be the reason why more patients are unsuccessful at long term recovery. The truth is, many alcoholics and drug addicts are self-medicating themselves. They are using drugs and or alcohol to self soothe a undiagnosed  and or improperly treated psychological condition. With that having been said, it should be considered a crime not to properly address the cause of a drug addict or alcoholic’s behavior. Yet, that is exactly what happens at far too many drug rehab programs, in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Visit Malibu Horizon

Dual Diagnosis Rehab Treatment Centers Are Better

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Why are dual diagnosis treatment centers better? First, dual diagnosis rehab treatment centers are rehabs that provide treatment got both psychiatric and substance abuse problems. Most alcoholics and drug addicts suffer from some kind of mood disorder, like depression, bi-polar, anxiety or ADD. So when they use and abuse drugs and or alcohol it is a form of “self-medication” to relieve their discomfort. That having been said, unless a treatment properly addresses any and all co-occurring psychiatric problems, the person is at a very high risk of relapse. The best drug rehabs offer a good dual diagnosis program.
