Rehab is The Lesser of Two Evils

Monday, September 28th, 2009

No one in their right mind goes to rehab unless they are in some form of pain, suffering or legal trouble. Drug alcohol rehab programs can be seen as some sort of punishment or it can be viewed as a place to start a brand new way of life. By the time someone needs to go to a 30 day rehab treatment center, they have suffered some heavy loses of some form or another. So, at that point it is either rehab or more pain and ultimately death, jail or the loony bin. Compared to the alternatives, all of a sudden, rehab doesn’t look too bad.

Addicted or Not Addicted

Monday, September 21st, 2009

At what point does someone cross the line between casual, recreational drug use and being addicted? The answer isn’t as difficult to determine as some people might think. Addiction is generally defined by the obsession for the particular drug of choice.  What that means is if someone can take the drug or leave it alone, chances are you are not addicted to it. If a person can go for long periods of time, let’s say months rather than weeks, and not think or crave using it, you are probably not addicted. Addiction is a form of domination and priority. When using any drug becomes a priority and it predominates and permeates the core and fabric of the person’s activities, you have crossed the line and should seek help.

Consider a Drug Program Carefully

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Like with anything else, be careful when shopping for the right best drug program. In the case of a drug rehabilitation treatment program, like anything else, you have to ask lots of good questions. Not all drug treatment programs are created equal. Like any other enterprise, a treatment program for drug abuse is about as good as the people who manage and work there. And, there’s more. In the case of a drug rehab program, you need to know some places really don’t care as much as they should about their clients. Same as some businesses we could mention. The point is, there is much more at stake here, than say buying a new blue ray DVD. Do your homework, get as much good information as you can from former patients and even the local better business bureau.

No Two Rehab Centers Are Alike

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

There are inpatient, rehab centers for alcohol and drug abuse in most major cities. And the interesting thing is no two rehab centers are remotely the same. Each one has their own philosophy, history, staff and program. Most of them, but not all, are firmly entrenched in the the 12-Step, alcoholics anonymous model of recovery. And not all of them have detox facilities. Some do a much better job with dual diagnosis than others. Some use the “Florida model”, where the patients have to cook, clean and shop for themselves. Picking the right treatment rehab center is a very important decision. It can make the difference between being successful, or not. Visit their website, ask a lot of good questions and take your time.
