I think the drug alcohol rehab business has become obsolete and out of touch with the times. Treatment and rehab should not be very much about going to 12 step meetings. And, unfortunately, all to often, that is what it is, primarily. And just so you know I am not anti AA, let me say, personally, I go to a 12 step meeting every day. I think 12 step meetings are one of the best things in the world. What they are not is treatment. The 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, among others, are support groups which helps a recovering alcoholic or drug addict stay clean and or sober. Or, as someone once said, AA is there to keep someone sober, not to get them sober. So before picking the best drug alcohol rehab, consider a program which considers itself, a non 12 step program.

Monday, January 18th, 2010Alcohol Detox Requires Medical Attention
Sunday, December 20th, 2009For some people stopping drinking is not a big deal. However, NO ONE who has been drinking alcohol on a regular basis, should EVER just up and quit, without being under the direct care of a trained medical professional. The reason is it could kill them. That’s right, if the person has a severe reaction to the withdrawing of alcohol from their body, they go into a kind of “shock” reaction known as the “D.T’s” ( delirium tremens). Once that happens, and it does happen, the chances the person will die is 33%. So, don’t take any chances, find the right alcohol detox and rehab program, and do it safely.
Alcohol Treatment Centers Treat More Than Just Alcoholism
Wednesday, July 8th, 2009We all know that alcoholism is a serious disease. What many people do not know is what goes on inside an alcohol treatment center. Oh yes they say, we know they go to groups and get counseling and learn how to stay sober. Well, times have changed baby. Today, the best drug and alcohol treatment centers are doing much more. And some people have been using alcohol to self medicate other issue such as depression, anxiety or trauma. More and more treatment programs have reinvented their programs and their approach. Some offer radical new therapies such as EMDR which have shown themselves to be effective tools in altering someone’s perception.
Rehab for Alcohol is Not a Bad Thing
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009Alcohol rehab is not all bad. For one thing, alcoholism is a fatal disease. So, believe it or not your drinking is going to eventually kill the person with a drinking problem, one way or the other. There are only three alternatives for someone with a drinking problem; sober up, get covered up or get locked up. Getting sober and going to rehab is by far, the lesser of the those three options. Alcohol rehab is no fun, I understand. It is, however, the right first step of getting out of the nightmare of alcohol abuse. Alcohol rehab is a lot like going to school. And believe it or not, there is a lot to learn. It could be worse, jail is no picnic. And death, well,we all know that’s the end of the line.
