Many People Have Stopped Drinking Alcohol

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

In America, drinking alcohol is considered normal. It is accepted as every American’s right to drink all the alcohol they want. Their are laws which restricts someone from driving a vehicle while under the influence. And there are laws about being drunk in public. The truth is the longer someone drinks alcohol, they gradually lose their tolerance for it. And it gets to be less and less fun. Almost 25% of adults over 25 do not drink any alcohol. Although at first the idea of not drinking sounds uncomfortable, after you have stopped for a while it seems perfectly natural to most. Often people have more fun because they are more aware of what is going on and participate rather being under the influence.

How to Know If Someone Has a Drinking Problem

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

Millions of Americans drink alcohol on a fairly regular basis. And for most of them it is not a problem. A drinking problem can be a tricky thing to determine. Partly because the person who does have a problem with drinking alcohol usually has a hard time determining it for themselves. Here is the best way to determine of someone has a drinking problem, or not. If they suffered any legal, martial or job consequences as the result of drinking alcohol, or seemed preoccupied with drinking, or they drink more than they planned or should, they probably have a problem. If they answered yes to any of these questions, they need to get some help.

Alcohol aka ETOH

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Ever wonder what the acronym ETOH stands for? Over the ages people have refereed to alcohol in all kinds of ways. like booze, ethanol, hooch and firewater just to name a few. In the health industry , ETOH stands for alcohol. I got to wondering why this was true. One of the reasons is it is easier to write etoh than alcohol. ETOH actually is an abbreviation for ethanol, the base ingredient of alcoholic beverages. After some research I am still not clear as to the history or idea behind it. It occurred to me that maybe there were times when it was better to disguise the word alcohol from family or people who did not need to know. And maybe it was to give alcohol, which comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes and strengths, a generic term to refer to alcohol in its pure chemical essence. In any case when you see the term ETOH you can be sure they are talking about the kind of alcohol you drink.

Independence from Alcohol Dependence

Friday, July 10th, 2009

I am always surprised by how easily people remain enslaved to people, places and things. Alcohol dependence starts out as taking a few drinks every once in a while. Dependency upon alcohol usually creeps into the fabric of their life ever so slowly. Drinking alcohol gradually becomes more and more of a regular occurrence. Independence from physical and or psychological reliance on alcohol starts with awareness of the reality of the condition. Some need more than just the realization. In those cases, joining Alcoholics Anonymous or some other support group help with stopping drinking. At first, life might seem rather boring.  Some people have a hard time handling their new found freedom without their liquid crutch. Give time time, life will inevitably improve.

Don’t Ignore A Drinking Problem

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Ignoring a drinking problem is a bad idea. Alcohol drinking problems don’t just go away, they eventually get worse. Like that funny noise coming from your car, you can ignore it, but the smart thing to do is get some professional help. The same is true with a drinking problem. Ignore it and the odds are you’ll end up regretting it. Alcoholism is a progressive disease. It never goes away or gets better. It can only be put into remission through the process known as recovery.
