The best treatment centers these days are non 12 step. They come right out and say we are a non 12 step based program. There are many reasons why this is so important. Probably at the top of the list is 99% of today’s treatment centers are religious in nature. That is right. They are based on the 12 steps of AA. And in the 12 steps, you are required to turn your life over to God. Does that sound like religion to you? The other concern is Alcoholics Anonymous is not treatment. Treatment is supposed to be about therapy. And any AA member would never even begin to say that AA had anything to do with therapy.
